NextGen Healthcare announces a significant change in the licensing model of Mirth Connect.
NextGen Healthcare has announced a significant change in the licensing model of its product, Mirth Connect, its renowned integration engine for the healthcare sector. Starting with the release of version 4.6 on March 19, 2025, it will transition from a dual-license model (open-source and commercial) to a single, closed and proprietary license model.
In this new framework, NextGen will introduce the Enterprise license, which will include a set of features (please contact us through the web form for more information).
Why this change?
This new approach will enable NextGen Healthcare to improve the quality, security, and reliability of its solution, ensuring an optimized experience for all users. Furthermore, the Enterprise model will facilitate the funding of new innovative features, essential security updates, and compliance with industry regulations.
Impact on current users
- Open-source users: They will be able to continue using their current version or upgrade to the latest open-source version available (4.5.2). However, from version 4.6 onwards, Mirth Connect will only be available through an Enterprise license. All previous open-source versions will remain under their respective Mozilla 1.0 or 2.0 licenses.
- Commercial users: They will not experience changes in costs, support packages, or services. However, those with custom extensions may need updates to ensure compatibility with version 4.6. NextGen Healthcare has updated the User Guide with detailed instructions to facilitate this transition.
- Existing integrations: They will not be affected and can continue to operate on the current version until its official support ends.
This change will allow NextGen Healthcare to strengthen its direct relationship with Mirth Connect users, offering more comprehensive support and constant evolution of the platform.
